Part II focuses on the baseline features that every Word user needs and employs—regardless of what types of documents you create in Word. This section covers the basics thoroughly but doesn't belabor easily mastered skills. Beyond that and more important, Part II is heavy on tips and shortcuts, pitfalls, and core techniques such as using document styles to save you time and work.

Chapter 5 begins with the basic unit of formatting—character formatting. Chapter 6 introduces and explains paragraph formatting, contrasting it with character formatting, and setting the stage for Styles. Chapter 7 combines elements of character and paragraph formatting, providing a full exposition on understanding and using Word styles and the various style tools Word offers. Chapter 8 will show you everything you need to know about the Clipboard, which is perhaps the most important time-saving word processing tool ever conceived. Finally, Chapter 9 will guide you through using Word's powerful Find and Replace tools.
