Printing Master Documents

One of the best things about master documents is that you can print the whole thing, including all of the subdocuments, at once. The master document prints differently, however, depending on which Word view it is in when printed:

  • Switch to Normal view and print the master document to print the master document and all of the subdocuments as consecutive pages at once.

  • Switch to Outline view and turn off the Master Document view using the Outlining toolbar to print just the outline of the master document.

  • Open a subdocument from within a master document to print out just that subdocument. The document prints out using the global pagination, cross-referencing, print options, and other features expected of a subdocument.

  • Open the subdocument directly from Windows and not from within the master document to print the document on its own, separately from the master document. In this case, the document is printed using its own template and other attributes without using the global pagination, print options, and other features.
