Using an Existing File as a Subdocument

If some parts of the master document already exist as Word files, you can insert them into the document instead of creating new subdocuments. To do this, place the insertion point where the subdocument should go or select the text as if you were creating a new subdocument. Then, click the Insert Subdocument button on the Outlining toolbar. This action opens a browse dialog for choosing the file to use as a subdocument. It is best to move any files that are to be used as subdocuments into the same folder as the master document before turning them into subdocuments.
