Mine It

Once you’ve found your shot, mine it for all it’s worth. Take some time and dig for the gold in the shot. You’ve waited, you’ve looked for it, you might even have created the circumstances; don’t blow it now by taking one frame and calling it a wrap. Put on your wide-angle and push in close. Put on your telephoto and shoot it tight. Shoot it deep, shoot it shallow. Shoot it horizontally, shoot it vertically. Work the shot for all it’s got—you may never be back in this place and in these circumstances again.

Once you’ve got shot it, take a breath and review your images. Think it through. What framing are you going to wish you had when you got back to the hotel or your home? Should you have shot from a lower perspective to get that shrubbery ...
