Decent Exposures

I don’t shoot on Program mode. Camera technology just keeps getting better and better, and while it can be suspiciously accurate with exposures, it can’t make decisions about how I want my image to look. And isn’t that what photography is about? The look? The old photojournalist mantra of “f/8 and be there” is great for a photojournalist whose priority is getting the shot, but not for photographers wanting more specific control over the aesthetics of their images.

Every setting used to control the quantity of light that enters the camera to give you a perfect exposure also has an effect on the look of your photograph. If your vision is vague and you’re okay with the camera choosing how the photograph looks, knock yourself out. ...
