Putting Time Within the Frame

As photographers, our most elemental raw materials are light and time. Simply by virtue of the technology with which we make our images, we are bound to carefully consider time in our process. Of course, the immediate consideration is the shutter speed, which is our capture measured in length of time. But at least as important as how long the captured moment is—1/250th or 1/1000th of a second, for example—is which moment we choose to capture.
