Fourth-Generation Systems and New Wireless Technologies

6.1 Introduction

With the rapid development of wireless communication networks, it is expected that fourth-generation (4G) mobile systems will be launched within a decade. 4G mobile systems focus on seamless integration of existing wireless technologies including wireless wide area network (WWAN), wireless local area network (WLAN), and Bluetooth (see Figure 6.1).
