A wireless network is particularly vulnerable to intrusion. Not only do you have the expected gateway to the Internet, where all sorts of malware and attacks can enter (even on wired networks), the wireless signal itself can be intercepted and your data observed or stolen.
What you need to do, then, is secure your network from intrusion and attack, by whatever means possible. Fortunately, there are several things you can—and should—do in this regard.
