Chapter 11. Wireless Systems and Standards

This chapter describes many of the original first and second generation cellular radio, cordless telephone, and personal communications standards in use throughout the world. Chapter 2 provides an overview of 2.5G and 3G air interface standards. First, the original analog cellular standards in the United States and Europe are described. Then, a description of second generation digital cellular and PCS standards is presented. A convenient summary of world-wide standards and a discussion about the US PCS, MMDS, WLAN, and wireless cable frequencies are provided at the end of the chapter.
