Managing Client Certificates

Certificates are used for many different client security scenarios, including:

  • Authenticating Web servers to the client, and authenticating the client to the Web server

  • IPsec connection security authentication

  • Encrypting File System (EFS) encryption

You can use the Certificates console to add, remove, back up, and configure client certificates. To run the Certificates console (which requires administrative privileges), click Start, type certmgr.msc, and then press Enter. The two most common certificate management tasks are:
