Troubleshooting Search
Computer administrators may have to deal the following troubleshooting issues with Windows Search.
Problem: The Windows Search service will not start.
Troubleshooting Steps:
Use Services.msc to verify that WSearch is set to Automatic startup type and uses the Local System account as its security context.
Verify that the permissions on the hidden catalog folder (%SystemDrive%\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search) are as follows:
Everyone has Read & Execute permission
SYSTEM has Full Control permission
Administrators has Full Control permission
Currently logged-on user has Read & Execute permission
Problem: Missing or corrupted index.

Rebuild the index.
