Understand Types of Accounts

Windows Vista offers three types of user accounts: administrator, standard, and guest. You have to be an administrator to create an account, so make sure you’ve logged on with your own administrator credentials before continuing. An administrator account is created during installation and setup, and it’s likely you’re logged on as an administrator now.

Administrator

An administrator account is the account you created when you set up Windows Vista. This account is the one you’ll use to install programs, change security settings, install hardware and drivers, and access all the files on the computer. This is also the account you’ll use when you want to create additional user accounts.
