Additional Network Terms to Know

I’ve only skimmed the surface with regard to networks, network configurations, network hardware, and network technologies, but that’s all you need to know to get started. As you continue to work through the book, you’ll learn much more about everything introduced in this chapter. However, for the sake of making sure no important term goes without introduction, here are few words you should know:

  • Broadband. Any connection to the Internet that is faster than dial-up. This includes DSL and cable.

  • Broadband transmission. The speed at which data can be transmitted across the network. Generally, the newer the technology, the faster the transmission.
