Import Existing Videos

You can import the following digital video file formats into Movie Maker by default:

• .asf

• .avi

• .m1v

• .mp2

• .mp2v

• .mpe

• .mpeg

• .mpg

• .mpv2

• .wm

• .wmv

Tip

Occasionally, Movie Maker will create more than one video file when you import videotape. Multiple files can be created for one of two reasons: when the format of the video on the tape changes or when the aspect ratio of the video on the tape changes. For each of these scenarios, a new file will be created every time a change takes place.

To import a video from your computer into Movie Maker, follow these steps:

1. In Movie Maker, click File.

2. Click Import Media Items.

3. Using the Import Media Items dialog box, locate and select the video you want to import.
