Assume that disaster will eventually occur and plan accordingly. Create standardized recovery procedures and keep them up to date. When there’s a lot of turmoil, as always happens in the case of a major failure, people forget important steps and can make poor decisions. Standardized procedures provide a course of action without the need for on-the-spot decisions. If you’ve planned for a disaster, and practiced what to do in the event of one, you’ll be able to recover much more quickly than if you haven’t. And recovering quickly in the event of a major disaster can be a significant competitive advantage.
