Using Authentication with Certificates

So far, you have looked at using the HTTP option for mutually authenticating the source and replica hosts. Now you will look at the HTTPS alternative, which is recommended for replicating over nontrusted networks (for encryption) and for hosts that are not in the same Active Directory forest.

Understanding Certificate Requirements

Both the source and replica hosts must have certificates that are mutually trusted. In other words, they must both trust the same parent or come from the same certificate authority (CA).
