Using File Servers

Storage costs within an IT project are always a large component in terms of capital expenditures (CapEx). In a server application such as Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, or even a Hyper-V workload, three main storage solutions are typically supported: direct-attached storage (DAS), iSCSI storage, and Fibre Channel storage. Each storage option presents issues involving data availability, CapEx, and data mobility that need to be addressed, especially when planning your overall storage architecture.
