DHCP Relay Agents

A DHCP relay agent can play a critical role on an enterprise network, allowing DHCP services to be extended across routers and different networks. When a DHCP client broadcasts a DHCP client broadcast, that broadcast is normally only allowed on the local network, which means that if there is no local DHCP server, there is no DHCP server response. Two ways to circumvent this limitation, or really this feature, is to either locate a DHCP server in each network or configure a DHCP relay agent on each remote network.
