TCP Connection Reset
The TCP connection termination process is for the graceful, mutually agreed closure of both pipes of a TCP connection. Both TCP peers exchange FIN segments that are acknowledged explicitly, indicating that all data on each outbound pipe has been sent and acknowledged. Another way to terminate a TCP connection is through a TCP connection reset—a TCP segment with the RST (Reset) flag set.
A TCP connection reset is sent when a parameter problem exists in the TCP header of an inbound TCP segment that cannot be reconciled. For example, an improper source or destination IP address or TCP port number could cause an established connection to be aborted.
