Summary

Typical WAN technology encapsulations used by Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista provide delimitation, addressing, protocol identification, and bit-level integrity services. IP datagrams sent over point-to-point WAN links can be encapsulated using PPP or MP. IP datagrams and ARP messages sent over Frame Relay use an HDLC-based multiprotocol encapsulation.
