Ongoing Maintenance

The three general categories of maintenance for an 802.1X-authenticated wired solution are as follows:

  • Management of user and computer accounts

  • Management of 802.1X-capable switches

  • Updating of wired profiles

Managing User and Computer Accounts

When a new user or computer account is created in Active Directory and that user or computer is allowed wired access, add the new account to the appropriate group for wired connections. For example, add the new account to the WiredAccounts security group, which is specified in the network policy for wired connections.

When user or computer accounts are deleted in Active Directory, no additional action is necessary to prevent those user or computer accounts from making wired connections.
