IPv4 is by far the most popular networking protocol in use today, and it will almost certainly remain popular for many years to come. Whereas connecting computers to an IPv4 network is straightforward (and often entirely automatic), designing IPv4 networks requires understanding IP addressing concepts and planning for future growth. Although IPv4 requires little ongoing maintenance, as an administrator, you must be familiar with many different troubleshooting tools to solve common connectivity problems.
