Chapter 3: Configuring Hyper-V

In the first two chapters, we introduced why system administrators and developers would want to use virtualization, and specifically Hyper-V.

In this chapter, we’ll cover the Hyper-V Manager, the main administration console for Hyper-V. The Hyper-V Manager is a powerful management interface that provides easy-to-use wizards for tasks such as new virtual machine creation, shows an all-up view of all virtual machines on a host, and has multiple host management built in.

After we review the Hyper-V Manager, we’ll dig into how to create a new virtual machine using the New Virtual Machine Wizard. We’ll edit the settings of the newly created virtual machine and then finish by covering some more advanced topics.
