Calculating and Displaying a Route
The new mapping infrastructure in the Windows Phone 8 SDK includes the capability to resolve the geographic coordinates of a street address and search for the shortest route between two points. This is a far cry from Windows Phone 7, which required you to deal directly with other third-party cloud services, such as the Bing Maps SOAP services that were covered in the first edition of this book.
This section looks at leveraging these new capabilities to allow the user to enter a start and an end location, which the app uses to locate the shortest path by road between the two points. This path is then displayed on the map and the itinerary placed in an expandable list box.
