Summary

This chapter introduced the VBScript language. It explained the basics of VBScript syntax and the fundamental building blocks of a script, including statements, operators, variables, conditional execution, loops, subroutines, and functions. In addition, it demonstrated how, for a simple case, WMI objects can be accessed from VBScript with only a few lines of code. This basic knowledge was intended to impart the knowledge of VBScript required to understand the rest of this book. Discussion of some of VBScript’s more interesting features and its extensive built-in functions will be developed in conjunction with consideration of WMI as this book progresses.
