Running WMI on Windows 95, 98, and Me

Windows 95, 98, and Me do not have the concept of services, so WMI must run as a standard executable. To test an installation, start winmgmt.exe and write a simple script that interrogates the local machine through WMI. Hopefully, everything will work just fine! VBScript and the Windows Scripting Host are installed as part of the WMI installation on those platforms, which do not include these components as standard.

If you want to do more than just run scripts locally on Windows 95, 98, and Me boxes, and actually integrate these platforms into your remote management regime, installation and testing are sadly not the end of the story.
