Chapter 17. Configuring Remote Access
Having a server at home to hold all of your important files is nice, isn't it? The fact that you can access them from any computer in the house is a nice bonus. But what about when you aren't at home? It's not always possible to remember to copy files you might need onto your laptop — what you really need is a way to access your network from anywhere.
Fortunately, Windows Home Server includes a way to do just that. The Remote Access feature allows you to access all of the files stored in your server's shared folders. You are able to download, upload, rename, and delete files through a special remote access Web site hosted on your Home Server. You can even remotely manage your server through the Console and attach Remote Desktop to your computer's desktops.
In this chapter, we explain how to configure your router and your server to enable Remote Access, and show you how to get a free dynamic domain name. We also show you how to configure the Web server.
