OLE Structured Storage

According to Microsoft, OLE structured storage provides persistence for files and data in COM by treating a file as a structured collection of objects, specifically storages and streams. This is also referred to as “compound files” or a “file system within a file.” As a result, it is possible to completely hide a Word document within an Excel spreadsheet, and vice versa. This is made possible by using a utility called Merge Streams[33]. Figure 3-17 illustrates the Merge Streams GUI.
