Finding File Needles in Hard Disk Haystacks

With multi-gigabyte hard disks selling for a couple of hundred dollars on the street, the days of king-size hard disk storage at a pint-size price are upon us. Recall from Chapter 1, “Preparing for the Windows 98 Installation,” however, that Parkinson's Law of Data ensures us that data expands to fill the space available. So, yes, our hard disks are massive, but they also contain massive numbers of files. Misplacing a file under these conditions can be a real problem because finding it among thousands of files becomes a chore. To help out, Windows 98 has a Find utility that can search for files (or folders) by name, date, size, or even content. The next few sections describe all of Find's features. ...
