Summary

This chapter gave you an introduction to one of Windows 98's most important components: the Registry. I gave you a short history of configuration files, from CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT to the INI madness that characterized Windows 3.x. I then showed you how Windows 98 improved the situation by consolidating configuration data into a single structure: the Registry. You then took a tour of the Registry structure using the Registry Editor, and I showed you how to use the Registry Editor to work with the Registry entries.
