This chapter explained the Windows 98 installation process in depth. As you saw, even though Windows 98 Setup is the friendliest and most intelligent of the Windows install programs, the installation process is far from trivial. You have upgrade issues to consider and preparatory chores to perform. Still, thanks to innovations such as the CD-ROM–based installation and the Hardware Detection Manager, Windows 98 Setup is a relatively painless affair.
