The Windows Desktop
It’s easy enough to get to the desktop. On
the Start screen, tap or click the Desktop tile. (Unless you’ve moved
it, it’s the lower-left tile.) Or press 
+D. Either way, TileWorld instantly vanishes—and
the desktop appears.
Tip
Move the Desktop tile to the top left
position on the Start screen. Now, no matter what you’re doing, you
can jump to the Desktop with a quick press of the key (to open the Start screen) and then Enter
(to open the first item).
When it first appears, the desktop’s wallpaper (background photo) is probably something installed by your PC’s manufacturer. By all means choose one of the much more attractive Windows desktop pictures, as described in Chapter 8.
All the traditional Windows landmarks are here at the desktop—the taskbar, the Recycle Bin—except one: the Start menu. You’re supposed to use the Start screen to open programs and files now.
To get to the Start screen from the desktop:
Touchscreen: Press the
button. Or tap the button in the lower-left corner (new in
