If You Have a Windows 8 Computer Without a LAN

If you have a Windows 8 computer that connects directly to the Internet but doesn’t connect to a home or office LAN, it’s still part of a network. (A really big one). You need to take only a few steps to be sure you’re safe when browsing the Internet:

• Enable Macro Virus Protection in your Microsoft Office applications.

• Be sure that Windows Defender is turned on and up to date—or, better yet, install Microsoft Security Essentials or a third-party antivirus/antispyware program.

• When you connect to the Internet, be sure to stay connected long enough for Windows Update to download needed updates.
