Scheme A—Windows Internet Connection Sharing with a Dial-Up Connection

The ICS feature provided with Windows can share modem or broadband connections that require a sign-on procedure. The connection is made automatically whenever any user on the network tries to access the Internet; this is called demand-dialing. With some sort of broadband connectivity almost universally available now, very few people use a shared analog connection, so we won’t describe this technique in detail. If you do need to use a shared dial-up connection, here is the basic procedure: Create a standard dial-up connection on one computer, and follow the instructions under Scheme B to share it. The procedure is almost exactly the same.
