Specifying Basic Account Settings

Here are the steps to follow to set up an email account with just the basic settings (which should be enough to get most accounts up and running):

1. Start the process using one of the following techniques:

• Start Mail for the first time.

• In Mail, select the Accounts tab and then click Email.

2. In the Add Your Email Accounts dialog box, type the email address and password for the account and then type your display name, which is the name that appears in the From field when you send a message.

3. If you’re adding a non-web account (that is, not a Hotmail, Gmail, or similar account that Mail can configure automatically), activate the Manually Configure Server Settings check box.
