Configuring a High-Speed Connection

If you’re using an Ethernet network adapter to connect your computer to a DSL or cable Internet service, the installer might set up your computer for you. “Self-install” providers give you a set of instructions specific to your service. We can give you a general idea of what’s required.

If your broadband service uses a network adapter (that is, an Ethernet adapter) to connect to a cable or DSL modem, you must take the following steps to secure your computer from hackers.

1. Right-click the network icon in the taskbar and then click Open Network and Sharing Center.
