Controlling the Overall System Volume

The system volume is the volume that Windows uses for all things audio on your computer: the sounds that Windows itself makes (warning beeps, the sign-on and sign-off tones, and so on) and the sounds that waft from your applications (such as music from Media Player and the new-mail notification from Windows Live Mail).

Windows 8 offers two methods for controlling the system volume:

• If you’re hanging out in the Start screen, press Windows Logo+I to open the Settings pane, click the speaker icon, and then drag the slider up or down to set the volume.
