Windows 8 includes built-in support for Internet connectivity using 3G or 4G mobile broadband (cellular) networks. This is an obvious feature for tablets, letting Microsoft’s Surface compete with the iPad, but it’s also available for laptop computers that have a SIM card and 3G or 4G data modem either built in or added on. In past versions of Windows, mobile connectivity required third-party software, but this is now built into Windows 8. Windows can determine from the SIM card which mobile carrier you use, and can help you get additional broadband accessories from your carrier through the Windows Store.
