Music on the Windows desktop rates as hard to find, a little bit boring, and certainly less enticing than the tiled version, over on the Start screen. But if you’re listening to music because you like to listen to music (as opposed to buying more music from the Windows Store), the experience isn’t bad at all.

Windows 8 comes with Windows Media Player (WMP), which is a decent application, and the subject of most of this chapter. Better players are out there, and I talk about a couple of them in this chapter, too.
