Adding hardware can be as simple as connecting a device to your computer with a USB plug, or more complicated like opening up your computer and inserting a new card or component. Some types of hardware are easy to install yourself; other types are best left to professionals unless you are very skilled and experienced working with the insides of a computer or electronics.

NOTE: Prior to installing hardware, perform a full backup of your computer to a drive outside of your local computer, and create system restore points. See Chapter 16 to learn how to perform backups and set system restore points.
