Understanding network connectivity in an enterprise

Understand the capabilities of the IPConfig command. This includes using /All to view full details including DHCP and DNS addresses, /FlushDNS to flush the DNS cache, /DisplayDNS to show the DNS cache, and /Release and /Renew to renew the DHCP lease.

Be familiar with the purpose and use of DHCP in a network. DHCP dynamically assigns the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and address of DNS servers in most networks. If a DHCP client can't reach a DHCP server, it will assign itself an address in the 169.254.y.z range without a default gateway or DNS server.
