Install and configure FrontPage Server Extensions

Installing FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions on a web site enables you or others to use FrontPage to publish changes to the site. You can enable and disable authoring, set performance options, and configure other settings. The first step is installing the extensions if they are not already installed.

Install the extensions

As with most Windows 2000 components, you install FrontPage Server Extensions through the Add/Remove Programs object in the Control Panel:

  1. Open the Control Panel, open Add/Remove Programs, and click Add/Remove Windows Components.

  2. Double-click Internet Information Services, select FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions, and click OK.

  3. Click Next to install the extensions.

Configure a site for server extensions

When you install the server extensions on a Windows 2000 Professional computer, Setup automatically installs the server extensions on the default web site. If you’ve previously removed the server extensions or you’re installing the extensions on a Windows 2000 Server computer, you’ll have to add the extensions to each site. You do so through the IIS console:

  1. Open the IIS console, right-click the web site, and choose All Tasks Configure Server Extensions. Click Next when the Server Extensions Configuration Wizard starts.

  2. Provide the wizard with the following information:

    Create local machine groups

Select this option to have Windows 2000 automatically create local Admins, Authors, and Browsers groups for management purposes. ...
