Change the order in which network clients or services are used

When a system has more than one client or service installed, Windows 2000 uses them in a specific order. For example, you might have both the Client for Microsoft Networks and the Client for NetWare Networks installed to support both Windows-based and NetWare-based servers. If most of your servers use a specific client, you can improve network browsing by setting that client first in the order.

Change provider order

As with most other network changes, you modify provider order through the Network and Dial-Up Connections folder. Provider order is defined in the Advanced Settings property sheet:

  1. Open the Network and Dial-Up Connections folder.

  2. Click Advanced Advanced Settings and click the Provider Order tab.

  3. Click a provider and use the up and down arrow buttons on the property page to change the provider’s position. Click OK to close the property sheet.
