Administrative Tools, Log Off, or Favorites are missing from the Start menu

On Windows 2000 Professional, Setup does not include the Administrative Tools folder on the Start menu by default. Although you can get to the folder through the Control Panel, it’s much quicker to use the Start menu.

Also, your system might be configured so the Log Off option doesn’t show up on the menu. If you log on and off your computer frequently, you’ll probably want to add that option to the Start menu.

Finally, you can configure the Start menu to include or exclude the Favorites folder, which also appears under the Favorites menu in Internet Explorer.

Show additional options on the Start menu

It’s a quick fix to add the Administrative Tools folder, Log Off option, or Favorites folder to the Start menu. Here’s how:

  1. Right-click the taskbar and choose Properties.

  2. Click the Advanced tab, select the Display Administrative Tools option, Display Logoff, or Display Favorites options, and click OK.
