Description

The Recycle Bin is a temporary storage location where deleted items are kept in case you want to undelete them. The property sheet for this object allows you to configure its size and behavior as follows:

General

This tab lets you decide whether to configure separate Recycle Bin settings for each drive or whether to use one common setting for all local drives (the default). If you select the latter, you can specify the maximum size to which the Recycle Bin on each drive can grow (default is 10% of each drive). Otherwise, you can choose to delete files permanently instead of simply moving them to the Recycle Bin when you delete them using a file-management utility such as Windows Explorer or My Computer.

Other tabs (one for each local drive)

If you specify on the General tab that you will “Configure drives independently,” then you can specify the maximum Recycle Bin size for each drive on your system.

To empty the Recycle Bin, right-click and use the Context menu. This permanently deletes all items stored in it.

To view the files within Recycle Bin, double-click on it to open it as a folder on your desktop. You can then select files you want to restore and move them to their original location by selecting File Restore.

Notes

  • Make the Recycle Bin big enough to meet your needs, since once it fills up, any further items moved to it will permanently delete earlier ones to make room.
