Description

Folder Options opens a property sheet with four tabs that let you configure different aspects of how folders behave when you browse through them on the desktop. The folders that can be affected by this control include:

Windows Explorer
My Computer
My Network Places
My Documents
Control Panel

Folder Options can also be used to enable or disable Active Desktop, a feature of Windows 2000 that lets you place web content directly on the desktop. The key features on these tabs are as follows:

General

Includes four important settings on this tab:

Active Desktop

Enables or disables Active Desktop on your computer. Activating it requires additional processor power and essentially makes your desktop a web page to which other web content can be added. The default is to use the classic desktop.

Web View

Specifies whether your folders will be displayed as web pages. The default is to enable web content in folders. You may want to disable Web View to optimize use of your desktop real estate.

Browse Folders

Specifies whether a new window will be opened when you try to open a folder icon by double-clicking on it. The default is to open new folders in the existing window where the folder icon is displayed.
