Synopsis

Configures the Windows 2000 Telnet Server service.

Description

The Telnet service enables a Windows 2000 server to function as a Telnet server so that remote Telnet clients can run character-mode applications on the server. The Telnet service supports only two concurrent Telnet client sessions (Services for Unix supports up to 63 concurrent sessions).

Telnet Server Administration is not implemented as an MMC console but as a command-line application. When you start this tool, you are prompted to select an option from the following list:

Quits the Telnet Server Administration application and closes the command-prompt window.

Lists the current users who have connected to the server using Telnet client software, giving their name, domain, computer, session ID, and log time.

Terminates the session of a user you select.

Lists registry settings you can display or modify to configure the operation of the Telnet service. These options include:

Exit this menu and return to the main menu

Specify 1 to allow users from trusted domains to access the server or 0 to allow only local users

Specify 1 for Ctrl-A to represent Alt or 0 for Ctrl-A to represent Ctrl-A (VT100 emulation mode only)

Specify a period ( . ) to configure the local domain to be the default domain (provided option 1 is set to 1), or otherwise specify the name of the default domain (must be a trusted domain)

Specify the path and current options of the shell, which by default is:

%SystemRoot%\System32\Cmd.exe ...
