Manages both local and mapped drives on local and remote computers.
Description
Logical Drives is an extension to the Computer Management snap-in that lets you manage partitions, volumes, logical drives, and mapped network drives on either local or remote computers. Logical Drives connects through Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) to obtain the required information to display.
Tip
There are two different meanings to the phrase "logical drive” in the previous paragraph. A logical drive can refer to either:
A volume created within an extended partition on a basic disk
A primary partition, volume within an extended partition, dynamic volume, or mapped network drive on a computer
Using Logical Drives
You can access Logical Drives by either:
Start → Programs → Administrative Tools → Computer Management → Storage → Logical Drives
Installing the Computer Management snap-in into a new or existing console (do not disable the Logical Drives extension)
When Logical Drives is selected in the console tree, the right-hand pane displays attached floppies, CD-ROMs, and all partitions and volumes on attached hard disks as local mappings, while mapped network drives are displayed with their associated share names and remote computer names (for example, PUB on MS1).
