Synopsis

Gracefully shut down the operating system so the machine can be turned off for maintenance, repair, or some other purpose.

Procedures

Ctrl-Alt-Del → Shutdown

Notes

Use this method to shut down a machine prior to powering it off, since it causes open files to be closed and saves operating-system configuration information. Do not shut down a machine simply by powering it off since this could cause loss of data.
By default, you must log on to a Windows 2000 Server machine before you can shut it down.
