Synopsis
Create, delete, and modify a local user profile.
Procedure
Windows 2000 caches local copies of user profiles even when roaming
or mandatory profiles are configured. In the event that domain
controllers are unavailable for processing logon requests, Windows
2000 uses the local user profile stored in the folder
C:\Documents and Settings\<user_name>
,
where <user_name>
is the user’s
logon name.
Create a Local Profile
When a new user logs on to a Windows
2000 Professional client computer for the first time, the default
user profile C:\Documents and Settings\All Users
is copied to create a new local user profile for the user.
Example
When Mary Smith logs on to her computer using her logon name MaryS,
her desktop and network settings will be stored in her local profile
folder C:\Documents and Settings\MaryS
.
Delete a Local Profile
Control Panel → System → User Profiles → select profile → Delete
Modify a Local Profile
Log on with your user account, make changes to your desktop settings, then log off. Your local profile will be updated with any changes you have made.
Notes
Only members of the Administrators group can manage user profiles.
If you don’t see the option of deleting a user profile in System Properties, you may not be logged on as a member of the Administrators group.
